Cookie Policy

What cookies this site uses, why, and how to refuse them.

Updated

Current state

This site uses analytics cookies and no others — and only if you agree to them. There are no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, and no profiling of individual readers.

Nothing is loaded from Google until you accept. Decline, or simply ignore the banner, and the analytics script is never requested.

Your current choice

This reopens the consent banner so you can change your answer at any time. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as giving consent, and takes effect immediately.

Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage under ydt_cookie_consent. It never leaves your device, and clearing your browsing data resets it.

Strictly necessary storage

The site needs no cookie to function. Reading articles, using search and submitting the contact form all work with cookies fully blocked. The only value we store is the consent choice described above — without it, the banner would ask you again on every page.

Analytics cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are read and how visitors reach them. It sets cookies in your browser — typically _ga and _ga_<container-id> — containing a randomly generated identifier used to recognise a returning browser and group its page views into a session. Google states these identifiers expire after two years unless refreshed.

The data is processed by Google on our behalf and is described in Google’s privacy policy and in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

We use it to see aggregate reading patterns. We do not use it to identify individual readers, and we do not combine it with the contact form or any other data.

How to refuse them

Declining in the banner is enough — the script is then never loaded. If you would rather enforce it independently of this site:

  • Browser settings — block or delete cookies for this site; every major browser supports this per-site.
  • Google’s opt-out — the Google Analytics opt-out add-on disables measurement across all sites that use it.
  • Content blockers — most ad and tracker blockers stop the analytics script from loading at all.

Blocking them has no effect on anything you can do here.

Third-party services

If you submit the contact form, the message is relayed by our email provider as described in the Privacy Policy. Outbound merchant links may lead to sites that set their own cookies under their own policies — those cookies are set by the merchant’s site, not by us.

Changes

Should we introduce cookies beyond the analytics ones described here, this policy will be updated to reflect it. The “Updated” date above marks the latest revision.
